Thermowells are used to surround and protect a temperature sensor, such as a thermocouple or resistance thermometer (RTD), when it is installed in a liquid or gas.
The thermowell allows the temperature of a medium to be measured without directly exposing the temperature sensor to the liquid, gas or mechanical stresses of the process.
